Smart Edit v7 (Operating System) and DVD Arabesk
The following are the most important features of Smart Edit
7, added since version 6. Apart from theses new functions, there are many
more smaller improvements not necessarily listed below.
User interface
When trimming in the scene
bin and in Insert scenes within the Storyboard, it is now possible to
switch to a four-image display. The interface then displays the IN, OUT
frames, as well as the frames just before and afterwards
simultaneously.

Splitting
and Trimming
During splitting, there is now an option to display two images.
This way, you can determine the position more easily when splitting
manually.
The small reference image inside a clip stamp can now
be selected from within anywhere in that scene.

Scenes can be grouped using a common group name. By selecting
one or more groups, you can selectively limit the clips shown in the scene
bin to improve visibility and overview.
Scenes already
positioned in the Storyboard can now be `hidden´ in the scene
bin.
The colour tones used in the interface itself can now be
adjusted for both buttons and the background.
Effects

Full
size preview
The Full Size preview now hosts four new modes (O+E centre, O+E
small, C centre, C small). `Centre´ modes compares the centre of an image
and its effect, whereas `small´ allows you to compare the complete scenes
in smaller image windows.
The real time preview can now be
played in loop. If you change settings during playback, the effect preview
re-starts using the new setting.
Most effects which are not
suitable for HDV footage can now be used in SD projects anyway (only in
Edit/Special). The quality of the rendered material slightly lower than
with the `normal´ HDV compatible effects.

It is now possible to add a selection of effects to the
Storyboard in one go (starting from the current position). Removing
effects automatically is also possible.
A blur effect (variable)
is now available for font shadows.
Fonts can also be
additionally anti-aliased .
VGA
There are two extra VGA modes now, with
higher resolutions (depending on the Casablanca model type).

When using higher resolutions (larger than 1024x768), the Scene
Bin is displayed in multiple lines.
In dual-monitor use, when
scrolling the Storyboard or the Scene Bin, the current reference image
(clip stamp) is shown in the video monitor.
In dual-monitor use,
you can determine what kind of image is displayed in the video monitor
when unused: Colour bar, a picture from the Image Pool (1:1, scaled
up/down or tiled) or a selectable colour.
Various
Automatic split is now available for
both the Startcode (like before) or the time. This may be necessary if an
HDV camcorder has converted footage down to SD and removed the Startcode
in the process.
Photo recording has been accelerated
considerably.

Stop
Motion Record menu
There is a new DV record function for creating animations
(Claymation etc.).
There is now a function for making fast
motion recordings directly from the camera.
Timecode display can
be either 000.00:00 (minutes, seconds, frames) or 00:00:00:00 (hours,
minutes, seconds, frames).
During playback, it is now possible
to show the original time code from the DV footage, rather than the
Casablanca time code.
At the end of an analogue playback in the
`Finish´ menu, the screen stops to black until a key or trackball button
is pressed.
